NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Thursday stayed the release of the film Udaipur Files : Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder , originally set to hit cinemas on July 11, until the Central Government decides on a revision application filed by Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind .

The application challenges the CBFC’s certification of the film, citing concerns that it may incite communal disharmony.

A bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Anish Dayal stated that since the petitioner has been directed to pursue a revisional remedy, the film’s release must be held until the interim relief plea is resolved.

The film is based on the 2022 murder of Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal, allegedly killed for supporting BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s controversial remarks.
