Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum deputy commissioner (DC) Ananya Mittal on Tuesday directed all the block development officers (BDO) and circle officers (CO) to verify the accounts of all beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana in the district.
The DC issued the direction for verification following a preliminary review that found multiple beneficiaries linked to 2,912 bank accounts in the district.
The findings revealed that two to four beneficiaries were linked to a single bank account across the 11 blocks, which is against the provisions of the MMSY scheme.
Under the scheme, women aged between 18-49 years are entitled to a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500.
The BDOs and Cos were asked to complete the verification and submit their reports within three working days.
"Those who took undue advantage of the scheme will face legal action. The money will be retrieved from the dubious beneficiaries.
Strict action will be taken against govt officials, if any, found to be involved in the scam," Mittal said after the meeting.
