A 20-year-old South African woman has died in what police believe was a murder on board a luxury superyacht in the Bahamas. Paige Bell was found unresponsive in the engine room of the 43-metre vessel Far From It, docked at Harbour Island.
Police said she had visible injuries and was pronounced dead by a doctor who arrived at the scene. A 39-year-old Mexican national was discovered nearby with severe arm wounds and is now facing a murder charge. Local authorities described his injuries as consistent with a suspected suicide attempt.
Bell, originally from Johannesburg, had been working as a stewardess and was due to turn 21 next week, reports MailOnline.
Her former colleagues described her as a "golden girl" and paid tribute on a fundraising page set up in her memory.
The yacht charges up to £120,000 per week and can accommodate ten guests and nine crew members.
The incident has rocked the yachting community and prompted tributes from across the industry.
The man accused of her murder is expected to appear in court in the Bahamas today.
A GoFundMe page set up in Paige's honour has so far raised $42,684.
A statement by her family said: "She would have celebrated her 21st birthday on July 14th. In honor of Paige, her mother has asked that we all eat red velvet cake (her favorite) on that day and share a photo in remembrance of the beautiful soul she was.
"Paige was more than a teammate, she was family. Her radiant spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless compassion made an unforgettable impact on everyone lucky enough to know her.
"Whether it was long days at sea or quiet moments under the stars, she brought light and warmth wherever she went."
Bill Gates has a mansion on the island, and Mick Jagger, Prince Harry, Tom Cruise, Kardashians, Harrison Ford and Tom Hanks are regular visitors to what has been dubbed "Billionaires' Backyard".
