It's been 20 years since this 00s movie trilogy hit the screens and pop culture has never quite been the same - so to celebrate, you can watch it all over again.
The Twilight Saga is a fantasy film series based on vampires and werewolves, born from the books written by Stephenie Meyer. The film series alone grossed over $3.36 billion worldwide but it all began in 2005 when the first book was released, garnering an immense fandom.
To celebrate the anniversary of the book releas, it will be returning to cinemas this month for a few days only. Each of the five films will be screening for one night only, across five days - thought to include extra roundtable discussions from the author.
Fans of the iconic movie series can expect to see reruns popping up in cinemas across the UK from October 29 through to November 2. While the initial film, simply called Twilight, came out in 2008, it kicked off a series of five blockbuster movies, a cult following and a legacy in film that has lived on since - and not always for the right reasons.
The Twilight Saga is one of the most divisive franchises out there, which follows three main characters - Bella Swan, an ordinary teenage girl, and her vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen, along with Bella's family friend and werewolf, Jacob Black. There is a rivalry between the two groups, as the Cullens only live off of animal blood, and villainous vampires are out to get Bella.
In what becomes a love triangle, viewers were quick to spark a never-ending debate of which side of the Hollywood heartthrobs they were on - Team Edward or Team Jacob. This rivalry lives on throughout all five films as relationships develop, the feud deepens and their intertwined lives present more danger for all parties.
It was the breakthrough role for many in the ensemble cast, which included Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. To this day, most of them are best known for these roles and the movie's legacy lives on.
For some, as they choose to take a trip down memory lane at the cinema to see Twilight, they may admit the film series has its flaws. As adults, many admit the plotlines and characterisations don't quite hold up - with many bad reviews on the script and dialogue.
The cast themselves have since come out against the films; Robert Pattinson has specifically called aspects of the films "strange" and "nuts". But that didn't stop the final film from being a box office boom, as it grossed $340 million worldwide in its debut weekend.
The ODEON website states: "The beyond-the-grave romance of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan kept a generation glued to cinema screens. Now, with the classic Twilight Saga movies returning to ODEON for a limited run, it's time you caught up on the lore (and more) with our quickfire guide."
To see the films at an Odeon cinema, they have the following dates for re-releases of all five films. The order will go as follows:
- Twilight re-release: November 2 & 4
