A study has revealed the most "disappointing" museums in the world, and a popular UK attraction has been ranked in second place. The study was conducted by Radical Storage and analysed more than 82,445 visitor reviews of 100 of the most visited museums in the world, including galleries. Not only did a UK museum manage to land in second place, but multiple other British spots also helped to make up the top ten list. The study used 102 keyword indicators for positive and negative experiences, such as "beautiful" or "boring".
It then calculated the percentage of reviews which indicated a positive experience compared to a negative experience for each museum. Each museum was then given a score out of 100, with one London museum receiving a measly score of 8.2 out of 100. The study found that the Science Museum in London is the second-most disappointing museum in the world. This museum is located in South Kensington and has been open since 1909.
The study found that the Science Museum in London had the greatest proportion of explicitly negative reviews, which was 18 per cent. Meanwhile, only four in ten reviews of the museum were positive.
The museum has an ever-changing array of exhibitions as well as permanent installations. One of the major attractions at the museum is a small piece of the moon.
It houses over seven million items related to science, technology, engineering, and medicine. While many reviews were negative, some praised the museum for being "interactive." However, the study says a whopping 35 per cent of reviews mentioned words related to "disappointed."
The Science Museum in London was only outranked by the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., which was named the most disappointing museum in the world.
The other British museums to make the list included the Natural History Museum in London, which placed fourth. Meanwhile, the British Museum in London was placed at number 7, while the Tate Modern in London was at number 10.
In the top 50, other UK museums appeared. At number 12 is the Royal Academy of Arts in London, directly followed by London's Saatchi Gallery at number 13. The V&A - Victoria and Albert Museum is at number 17, while Tate Britain is found at number 27, followed by Somerset House at number 28.
Other UK museums that made up the top 60 most disappointing in the world include the London's National Gallery at 35 and Edinburgh's National Galleries of Scotland at 53.
When it comes to the Science Museum in London, Tripadvisor reviews are rather kind. People have left reviews calling it a "great day out" for the family and a "fascinating museum".
