A verdict has been reached on Sean "Diddy" Combs, with the rapper being found not guilty of sex trafficking by a jury. The jury has found Combs not guilty of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking his former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura. He was also found not guilty of sex trafficking an ex-girlfriend, known under the pseudonym Jane, in court.
However, the rapper was found guilty of transportation for the prostitution of Cassie, now 38 years old, and others. He was also found guilty of transportation for prostitution of Jane and others by the jury. Each charge holds a maximum sentence of 10 years.
The BBC said the rapper remained stoic, prayed with his children, and hugged his lawyers once the verdict was in after seven weeks of evidence being shared in court. The broadcaster said there was an "explosion" of noise when the counts were read aloud.
He made a praying hands gesture in a thank you to the jury after the verdicts were confirmed.
Judge Arun Subramanian thanks jurors for all their hard work over the past few months and says it has been "inspiring".
The judge agreed with prosecutors and Combs' defence team that less than 13 hours of deliberations was too soon to give up on reaching a verdict on all counts.
In a note to the court late yesterday (Tuesday, July 1), the jury said "unpersuadable opinions on both sides" among some jurors had prevented the group from reaching a unanimous verdict on the racketeering conspiracy charge.
Combs, 55, has been behind bars since last September when he was arrested.
