Arsenal can emulate Liverpool strategy by landing Tottenham blow over surprise player

It's been a good summer transfer window for Arsenal, but there's still time to make it a great one. The Gunners have been busy in the market, with the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres all penning deals with Mikel Arteta's side.

But with their Premier League opener against Manchester United just a few days away, there are still some suggestions Arsenal could head back into the transfer market for reinforcements. Left wing is a position that has been mooted all summer, with claims Arteta would be open to improving on his current options in the squad.

Eberechi Eze looked the most likely addition, with the Englishman also adept at playing in a more central position too. However, it looks as if rivals Tottenham might've stolen a march on the Eze deal, with Spurs rumoured to have opened talks with Crystal Palace over a transfer.

There has also been talk about a move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo, who is also being touted with a move to one of Europe's elite, but it now appears as if Manchester City might've snuck in and taken the initiative. Part of the reason behind that is Spurs' ongoing pursuit of City winger Savinho, who Pep Guardiola doesn't want to lose, but accepts will have to sell if a tempting offer arrives in the club's inbox.

But what if there is a world where Arsenal pulled a trump card and hijacked the Savinho deal by taking a leaf out of Liverpool's book? It wouldn't be the first time Arsenal registered an interest, given the capital club were mentioned among the suitors when Savinho was leaving Brazil back in 2022.

The winger was eventually persuaded by the City Football Group route, signing for Troyes, before eventually going on loan to Girona and then later making a move to the Premier League. Given the 21-year-old is said to be open to a Tottenham move, it's likely if Arsenal piqued their interest, Arteta and co. would be able to tempt him to the Emirates.

And striking late in negotiations is exactly how Liverpool have enjoyed some of their best transfer successes. The Merseysiders jumped in at the last hour to steer Luis Diaz away from Tottenham back in 2022, with Liverpool having done similar when it looked like Cody Gakpo was heading to United.

History tells us that City wouldn't have any reservations selling to Arsenal either, given both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have made the move in the past. What's more, City have shown in the past that if the price is right, they'll sanction a move - think Cole Palmer joining Chelsea for £42.5m two years ago.
