Ashwin played for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL for many years. Apart from this, he also played for Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, and Punjab Kings. Ashwin has also captained Punjab in the IPL. He played 220 matches in his IPL career, in which he took 187 wickets while conceding runs at an excellent economy of 7.2. Apart from this, he also scored 833 runs in batting, which included one half-century.
