The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is launching a new annual FASTag pass system starting August 15, aimed at providing convenience to private vehicle owners by reducing toll costs on national highways and expressways. This pass allows 200 toll crossings or unlimited use for one year at a fixed cost of ₹3,000, bringing down the average toll cost to about ₹15 per toll—significantly cheaper than the current ₹50 or more per toll. This means you could save around ₹7,000 if you cross 200 tolls in a year.
Here are four key points to keep in mind before purchasing the annual FASTag pass:
Eligibility:
Only private vehicle owners such as cars, jeeps, or vans are eligible. Commercial vehicles including buses, trucks, and taxis are not eligible for this pass.
Vehicle-Specific Use:
The pass is non-transferable and can only be used for the vehicle registered with it. This means you cannot use the pass for multiple vehicles.
Coverage Area:
The annual pass is valid only on national highways and expressways operated by NHAI or the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Toll payments will still be required separately on state highways, municipal roads, and state expressways as they are not included.
Non-Refundable:
Once purchased, the pass cannot be returned or refunded. After the validity period ends, a new pass must be purchased again.
To buy the pass, users must log into the Highway Travel App or visit the NHAI or MoRTH website, enter their vehicle number and FASTag ID, and ensure the FASTag is active and properly installed. The ₹3,000 fee can be paid online through UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking.
This annual FASTag pass offers a cost-effective and hassle-free way for private vehicle owners to save on toll charges throughout the year on national highways and expressways.
