Real Housewives' Juliet Mayhew's heartbreak after being 'dumped at altar'

One of the Real Housewives of London has revealed she was "pretty much dumped at the altar" in her twenties. Juliet Mayhew recently recalled the end of an engagement years ago whilst discussing her experience with rejection.

Juliet, who is among the stars of the new Hayu show, which launched this month, has said that she was in a "pretty dark place" after a previous relationship ended. She credits her loved ones and her faith in helping her move on.

The reality TV star, now in her forties, spoke about parting ways with a former fiancé, whose identity she didn't disclose, on a podcast released today. Juliet said that she had been in her early twenties and dreamed of getting married.

Speaking on the podcast, Juliet said that her parents, who have been together for more than 50 years, were role models to her growing up. She said: "You dream of being married and having children and a family."

She continued: "I always felt that I was discerning and made the right decisions, y'know, and I stood by my faith and my morals and looked up to him the way that my father was. And I... I was pretty much dumped at the altar."

Juliet said that her "whole world collapsed". She told podcast host Dr. Tom Flaherty that she had been "very young" and had "rose-coloured glasses". After recalling accepting her partner's proposal, she said: "I think so much about this decision comes down to your pride."

She added: "I'd said yes to what I believed was the man that I had fallen in love with. And therefore, my commitment and the way that I say ... when I say I'm going to do something, I follow through." Juliet said that it's her "integrity," adding: "So if I started seeing cracks or doubts, I'd already made the decision. Surely these things will work themselves out."

She added on the podcast: "It was devastating for me to find out, I think, two months before we were married, that he was cheating on me. And that ... my whole world ended like ... we had announced [our wedding already]."

Juliet said that it was after an "amazing lead-up" to their nuptials. She told Tom: "Suddenly, boom, it was ... he cheated on me. And where did that leave me? What was so wrong about me that I wasn't good enough for him?"

She said that her bridesmaids hosted an "amazing" lunch on her wedding day to "celebrate" her. Juliet also revealed that one of her friends was "so strict" in the wake of the break-up and encouraged her to move forward with her life.

Juliet said that the friend told her not to contact her ex and encouraged her to stay with her. She said that the pal told her that she needed to remain on the "trajectory" of where she was going in life and "be who you are".

The guest said that it was "the best thing" anyone had done for her, adding: "I had to go through the process of like when one door closes, another one opens." She said: "I think that I had to make a decision in my mind that I was not gonna look backwards. I was gonna look forward."

Juliet said that her former fiancé realised it was the "worst decision" but she didn't want to rekindle a relationship. She assured that he's a "wonderful man" but added: "That man was not for me." She went on to add that the man for her turned out to be her husband Anthony Mayhew instead. She's been in a relationship with Anthony for 19 years now and the couple have a family together.
