Patrick Dorgu sends message to Benjamin Sesko and issues Man Utd promise

Patrick Dorgu says Manchester Unitedhave returned to the club's attacking heritage and put last season's failings behind them. Dorgu was United's stand-out player in their 4-1 win over Bournemouth, setting up the opener and scoring the second in an all-action display from the defender.

Signed in January for £25million, Dorgu looks to have cemented his status as Ruben Amorim's first-choice left wing-back with his rampaging runs and attacking threat. And the 20-year-old is confident United will hit the ground running when the new season starts and surprise those who expect them to fall short again.

“I think we will hopefully see a United team that is attacking more, that's on the front foot, that's trying to dominate every game,” said Dorgu.

“We will take the rest of the pre-season to get even better. I feel like we're getting there, we're playing more as a team and we're running for each other.

“You can see on the pitch that we're playing as a more active team. With the press, we run more for each other, so you can see that the pre-season has helped everyone. I feel like everyone left last season to last season and everyone is just looking forward to the new season, so everyone is positive.

“I came in at a difficult moment last season and I think the team is improving a lot. It's more like a collective than an individual. I feel like everyone is positive and looking forward to the season."

Dorgu provided the assist for United and Denmark team-mate Rasmus Hojlund to open the scoring against Bournemouth and said the goal will do wonders for the striker's confidence. United are pushing to sign £70m-rated Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, but Dorgu backed Hojlund to prove his enduring value.

“He's doing really well,” said Dorgu. “He looks sharp, he looks fit and I'm very happy for Rasmus to get his goal.

“It was a difficult season for Rasmus. Not only for him, but for everyone, so I think this season is really important for him and for the team to get back to where we have to be in the league.

“We need a striker to deliver on the pitch, so that's why he was happy. We talk in training, we try to understand each other on the pitch, for me to know where he is in the box and what movements he likes. He needs confidence, everyone needs confidence and a goal always helps with that.”
