A devastating suicide blast tore through a school bus in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district on Wednesday morning, killing 6 children and injuring 43 others, including schoolgirls, boys, and adults. The horrific attack, targeting innocent students, has shaken the entire region.
According to Khuzdar Deputy Commissioner Yasir Iqbal Dashti, the explosion occurred near Zero Point, where the bus was en route to school. Four children died on the spot, with the toll rising to six as critically injured students succumbed at the hospital.
Children Among the Dead, Dozens InjuredThe casualty list includes 3 schoolgirls and 2 schoolboys among the dead, while 18 schoolgirls, 12 boys, and several women and men are reported among the injured. Many of the wounded are said to be in critical condition, raising fears that the toll may climb further.
Officials Confirm Suicide AttackOfficials told the Associated Press that the attack was a suicide car bombing, where the assailant drove directly into the bus. The explosion was so powerful that the vehicle was ripped apart, turning what should have been a routine school commute into a scene of carnage.
No Claim Yet, But Suspicion Falls on Baloch SeparatistsSo far, no group has claimed responsibility, but suspicions are mounting against the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist outfit that has previously targeted both civilians and security forces. The BLA was declared a terrorist group by the U.S. in 2019.
Just earlier this month, 7 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the province by an IED blast, also believed to be carried out by BLA militants.
Pakistan’s Home Minister Calls Attack “Barbaric”Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “barbaric act” and declaring, “The animals who target innocent children do not deserve any leniency.” He emphasized that such attacks are meant to spread fear and instability by targeting the most vulnerable.
Security Forces Launch InvestigationIn the aftermath of the blast, police, Frontier Corps, and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene. Investigators are collecting forensic evidence, and initial findings point clearly to a planned suicide bombing.
Balochistan's Ongoing TurmoilThe attack is a grim reminder of Balochistan’s ongoing insurgency, where groups like the BLA have waged a long-standing campaign against the state. Their operations often target military convoys, public infrastructure, and now, heartbreakingly, school children.
This tragedy highlights the increasing danger faced by civilians in conflict zones—and the need for stronger intelligence and protective measures, especially for children.
