Besides earning a prestigious spot in the newly introduced ‘Super Swachh League’ of the Swachh Survekshan 2024, Navi Mumbai has also been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best City’ in the Citizen Feedback category. "This recognition highlights the overwhelming support and satisfaction expressed by residents regarding the city’s cleanliness, sanitation services, and civic engagement efforts," Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde said.
Citizen feedback, which forms a crucial component of the national cleanliness ranking, evaluates cities based on public perception, awareness of sanitation initiatives, and residents' direct experiences with municipal services. Navi Mumbai secured the highest score in this category, reflecting strong community involvement and trust in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) efforts, a statement released by NMMC said.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde credited the achievement to the active participation of citizens and frontline sanitation workers. He said the recognition is not just a government milestone but a collective success of the people of Navi Mumbai who have consistently supported and participated in cleanliness campaigns.
Over the past year, NMMC focused heavily on public outreach—through awareness drives, digital platforms, local partnerships, and community initiatives such as the ‘Parisar Sakhi’ program that engaged women waste pickers in door-to-door collection. The civic body also encouraged on-site composting and zero-waste models in residential societies, further involving residents in sustainable waste management.

Feedback collected via mobile apps, helplines, and on-ground surveys was integrated into planning and service delivery through the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC).
"With this top honour in the Citizen Feedback category, Navi Mumbai has demonstrated that effective governance combined with strong citizen participation can set a benchmark for urban cleanliness and public satisfaction across India," Dr Shinde said.
