The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is set to develop a new 104-km access-controlled expressway linking the under-construction Vadhvan Port in Palghar district to the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg at Bharvir, near Igatpuri.
Greenfield Expressway to Enhance Freight Connectivity
According to officials, the project is currently in its early stages. "The alignment has been submitted to the state government for approval. Once we get the nod, land acquisition will begin," said a senior MSRDC official. Tenders will be floated after substantial progress is made on the Vadhvan Port project, the official added.
Greenfield Expressway to Enhance Freight Connectivity
The proposed greenfield expressway will begin at Bharvir Khurd near Igatpuri and connect to National Highway 48 at Tawa village near Charoti. From there, a new stretch up to Vadhvan Port will be built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The corridor is expected to provide seamless freight connectivity from central Maharashtra to the west coast, bypassing Mumbai's congested routes. Officials estimate that the travel time between Igatpuri and Vadhvan Port could be reduced to just 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Strategic Potential: Airport Plans Under Review
The expressway is also likely to gain strategic significance, with the government exploring plans for a greenfield airport adjacent to the upcoming deep-sea port.
