Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Lokayukta Police are in final stages of preparing a chargesheet against Alok Khare, former Assistant Excise Commissioner of Indore, who is under investigation in a high-profile disproportionate assets case.
Khare was raided by Lokayukta officials in October 2019, and what emerged was a staggering revelation of wealth far exceeding his known sources of income.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a 70-member team of Lokayukta officials conducted simultaneous raids on seven locations linked to Khare in Bhopal, Indore, Raisen and Chhatarpur. The raids, described as one of the biggest in recent times, led to the seizure of assets valued at more than Rs 100 crore.
Following a detailed probe, the state government granted prosecution sanction against Khare, paving the way for legal proceedings. Lokayukta SP DK Rathore confirmed that the police are preparing the chargesheet and will submit it in court soon.
The case, which has been under active investigation since the raids, is expected to become a legal landmark in the stateís fight against corruption in bureaucracy.
Hidden empire During the raids, Lokayukta teams uncovered over 100 acres of land spread across Bhopal, Chhatarpur and Raisen. Besides, they seized 2 kilogrammes of gold, more than 10 kilogrammes of silver jewellery and eight expensive plots in Bhopal.

Investigators also found two lavish farmhouses in Raisen, located in Dabra Imaliya and Chopra village, collectively worth over Rs 5 crore.
Documents for numerous other propertiesóincluding houses, agricultural land, commercial spaces, and luxury vehiclesówere also recovered.Khareís wife, Meenakshi Khare, had Rs 46 lakh in her bank account, adding to the list of unexplained assets under scrutiny.
Spending 88% more than legal income According to the Lokayukta report, Alok Khare and his wife spent approximately Rs 10.71 crore, while their total legally-declared property was only Rs 5.69 crore. This shows a discrepancy of nearly 88%óa massive disproportionate income for a public servant. When questioned, Meenakshi Khare claimed her income came from her profession as a lawyer.
However, officials say she failed to produce any supporting documents or income records to justify the assets in her name.
