Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore paid a heartfelt tribute to the legendary queen and visionary leader, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, on the occasion of her 300th birth anniversary. A grand celebration titled “Synonym of Good Governance and Women Empowerment: Maa Ahilyabai Holkar” was hosted by the Indore Municipal Corporation at the Brilliant Convention Centre on Tuesday.
The event brought together eminent women, public representatives and social workers from across sectors. Chief guest BJP national joint general secretary Shiv Prakash and Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, who presided over the programme, reflected on Ahilyabai’s enduring legacy of welfare-centric governance.
Shiv Prakash praised her pioneering reforms, including support for widow pensions, animal husbandry, and women in defense. He called her life a beacon for public service.
Mayor Bhargav emphasised Indore's deep connection with Ahilyabai as her karma bhoomi and said her ideals of inclusive development and women’s empowerment resonate across the globe even today.
District panchayat chairman Vishwajeet Sisodia applauded the inclusion of rural voices on a prominent urban stage - echoing Ahilyabai’s values of unity and grassroots empowerment.
In a moving moment, Khushboo Guru, representing the transgender community, said the event made her feel seen and valued, drawing strength from Ahilyabai’s inclusive vision.
A highlight of the ceremony was the special felicitation of 89-year-old social worker Usha Vaishampayan, who was honoured for her tireless service in sanitation, education, and environmental initiatives since 1994.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge to uphold Ahilyabai Holkar’s legacy - a legacy of justice, dignity, and visionary leadership that continues to guide generations.
