New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday criticised Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah for failing to tender a proper apology for his comments against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.
A division bench headed by Justice Surya Kant questioned the " online apology" tendered by Shah. "What do you mean by an apology like this? This man has been testing our patience...this was the statement he made on the first date...where is it on record? That (online apology) shows his intentions, that makes us more suspicious of his bonafides...," Justice Kant told Shah's counsel.
The bench also questioned the rationale behind recording Shah's statement by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted at the directions of the top court. It said that instead statements of those who have been victimised should have been recorded.
The bench asked the SIT member present in the court about the time to complete the probe. The member said the probe would be completed within the statutory limit of 90 days, which are set to expire on August 13.
The bench deferred the matter for resumed hearing on August 18.
