Rohit Sharma in ICC ODI rankings: Amid discussions about his international cricket future, Indian star Rohit Sharma has climbed to the second spot in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings, released on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old, who has not played competitive cricket since the 2025 IPL season, overtook Babar Azam, who slipped to third following a series of low scores in Pakistan’s recently concluded ODI tour of the West Indies.
With 756 rating points, Rohit trails just behind India’s Test captain Shubman Gill (784), who continues to hold the No. 1 position. Former captain Virat Kohli occupies the fourth spot with 736 points.
Both Rohit and Kohli had previously announced their retirement from the Test format ahead of India’s England tour but remain committed to continuing in the 50-over format. The duo is expected to feature in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia in October and have begun training to regain form.
Recognized among the all-time greats of ODI cricket alongside Kohli, Rohit reached his career-best rating of 882 points during the 2019 World Cup, following his record-breaking fifth century in the tournament. The two last played ODIs during India’s victorious Champions Trophy campaign in the UAE earlier this year.
India currently boasts five players in the top 15 of the men’s ODI batting rankings, including Shreyas Iyer in eighth place and KL Rahul at 15th.
