Vaibhav Suryavanshihas been named as Bihar's vice-captain for the first couple of rounds of the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy. Sakibul Gani will lead the squad. The season is set to get underway on Wednesday, October 15.
The announcement from the Bihar Cricket Association has come just two days ahead of the start of the tournament after a selector joined a two-member selection panel at the last moment, with the panel created as per a BCCI directive. The BCA has been asked to form a five-member selection panel as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Suryavanshi, the talented left-handed batter, has been in fine form for India U19 of late. He ended as the second-highest run-scorer of the multi-day series, scoring 133 runs in three innings against Australia U19. Suryavanshi was also among the runs in the series against England U19 earlier, as he registered 355 runs in five games while striking at an incredible 174.01.
Previously, reports have indicated the possibility of Suryavanshi moving out of Bihar. The youngster's run-scoring prowess has been the primary reason why he has been attracting attention from other state associations. However, the BCA is understood to be keen on retaining Suryavanshi to return to the Elite division.
It is highly improbable that Suryavanshi will be part of the Bihar state squad for the entirety of the Ranji season as he is one of the leading contenders to secure a spot in India's squad for the 2026 U19 World Cup, which will be played in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
