Bhavantar Scheme Returns: Soybean Farmers to Get Direct Payment if Market Prices Fall Below MSP

Send Push

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced the relaunch of the Bhavantar Payment Scheme, giving a major financial cushion to soybean farmers. Under this scheme, if farmers sell their produce below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), the state government will directly deposit the difference into their bank accounts through DBT.

What Is the Bhavantar Scheme?

The Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana (Price Difference Payment Scheme) was first introduced in 2018–19 to protect farmers from the fluctuations of market prices. The scheme ensures that if the market rate of a crop falls below the MSP set by the Central Government, the difference (known as “Bhavantar”) is covered by the state government.

For example, if the MSP for soybean is ₹5,328 per quintal and the farmer sells it for ₹5,000 per quintal, the government will pay ₹328 per quintal directly to the farmer’s account.

Objective of the Bhavantar Scheme
  • To guarantee farmers the minimum support price for their crops, even if the market crashes.

  • To provide a financial safety net against the unpredictability of agricultural markets.

The scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on farmers and promote stability in their income, particularly during harvest seasons when prices typically dip due to oversupply.

Key Features of the Relaunched Scheme
  • Applicable Crop: Soybean (initial phase)

  • Payment Mode: Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)

  • Payment Duration: November 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026

  • Registration Period: October 10 to October 25, 2025

  • Eligible Beneficiaries: Registered soybean farmers in Madhya Pradesh

Registration Process

Farmers can register online through the e-Uparjan portal from October 10, 2025.
Here’s how the process works:

  • Visit the e-Uparjan portal and complete your registration.

  • The Revenue Department will verify your land records and bank details.

  • Once verified, your account will be linked to receive payments directly via DBT.

  • Farmers must ensure that the bank account details provided during registration are active and accurate, as payments will be made only to the registered account.

    How Compensation Will Be Calculated

The compensation amount will depend on the difference between MSP, model price, and the actual sale price in the market:

  • If the sale price ≥ MSP: No payment will be made.

  • If the sale price < MSP but > model price: The difference between MSP and sale price will be paid.

  • If the sale price < model price: The difference between MSP and model price will be compensated.

  • Example:

    • MSP for Soybean: ₹5,328 per quintal

    • Market Price: ₹5,000 per quintal

    • Difference Paid: ₹328 per quintal directly credited to the farmer’s account.

    Required Documents for Registration

To successfully apply under the Bhavantar Scheme, farmers need the following:

    • Registration number from the e-Uparjan portal

    • Sale receipt, weighing slip, and payment proof

    • Certificate of sale after four months of storage

    • Aadhaar card

    • Farmer ID card

    When Will Farmers Receive Payment?

After the registration window closes on October 25, 2025, and crop verification is complete, payments are expected to begin from November 1, 2025 onward. All eligible farmers will receive funds directly in their linked bank accounts via the DBT system, ensuring full transparency and quick disbursement.

    Why the Scheme Matters

Madhya Pradesh’s economy relies heavily on agriculture, and soybean is one of its key cash crops. Market price drops often push farmers into debt, but the Bhavantar Scheme promises a reliable backup. With government intervention covering price losses, farmers can sell their produce freely without fear of loss, boosting both confidence and productivity.

This move not only helps farmers secure fair value for their crops but also reflects the state government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare and rural economic stability.
